My First Choker!

Really? My first choker? With all the beadweaving I've done in the past few years, I'm actually surprised myself that I haven't made a choker. I've made pendants that are on wire or chain chokers, but never a beadwoven one.

Until now.

I recently had a special request from a customer who wanted a choker to match the Rastafarian Topography cuff.

After we talked for a bit about size and color placement, I created a whole new design meant to coordinate with the original design, pulled out beads in the same colors as the cuff, and started beading.

In order to make sure the choker would fit properly, I made it slightly smaller than the customer's neck measurement and used a length of copper chain and a lobster clasp that will allow her to adjust it to a comfortable length. No one wants a choker that's too loose -- or worse yet, too tight!

And just to fill out the ensemble, I decided to make a little pair of earrings to go with the cuff and choker.

The customer has already received her matched Rasta set and says she loves them... a good thing, since she's planning to wear them for a very special occasion - her daughter's wedding!

I know I said Etsy Treasuries are hard to get, but I actually managed to snag one today! I just happened to be checking the Treasuries when the number was hovering at 333 and up popped that little box for the title. Yay!

I decided to fill this one with color. Click here and give it some love. :-)

That looks like candy. That's what my husband said as I was making this piece. It was inspired by the Etsy BeadWeavers September Challenge, Show Your Colors. As soon as I learned the theme, I went to my bead stash and pulled out the brightest colors and mixes of colors, even though I wasn't sure what I was going to do with them.

The idea for this necklace just kind of popped into my head. The center of the piece reminds me of a seed pod, so I was trying to think of a name that would match up with that visualization... and then my husband looked over at it while I was beading away and said, "That looks like candy." Title done.

If a blog had feelings, this one would feel neglected. I have every intention of writing something in here every day or so, but the time goes by and nothing is written.

Today, sated after having some really good Mexican food for dinner, I can sit here and write because I don't have the energy or inspiration to do much else. Skirt steak, guacamole, refried beans... along with chips and homemade salsa... I guess that's the meal that makes one just wanna sit! :-)

I suppose I do have to say something about the most recent creations: glass pendants. I found these neat little molded glass rectangles that make absolutely beautiful pendants. The first ones I've created use fractals as the images, but there will be more and different ones later on.

Some of these are listed in my Etsy shop, so go check 'em out! They're only $5!!!
